This opinion, I assure you, is not a popular one. Many cops I work with do not favor the installation of video cameras in their police cars. I flat out disagree and believe they can help save the profession.
Look at this recent Good Morning America video from Baltimore.
I feel bad for that cop, I really do. Odds are he will be in some serious trouble, perhaps even fired. Now I don’t think he is a brute or a violent person. I understand (but the public probably won’t) that he has spent years dealing with recalcitrant people like that punk kid. He probably had a bad day going already, and he snapped. This is not an excuse, but it is a consideration.
If cops know that everything they do is being videotaped, then I have to believe they will check themselves in times of emotion like the Baltimore incident.
Now trust me that everything in police work has to do with money, and money first. So getting this equipment will not be easy. Bean counters would rather fire me than help me keep my job. Sad, indeed (and fiscally unwise as well…it is cheaper to buy a video camera than replace a cop!)
Anyhow, I hope incidents like this one show the politicos that we need cameras NOW. And I hope that officer gets a second chance.

I saw this last night– I can’t really tell you if I am on the cop’s side- I found him to be abrasive and a bit on the cruel side- let me watch your video to add on to this-

sorry cop- this guy is a jerk– and if he had talked to me like that, I would have
his badge–this is a controlling, ranting man full of rage– I don’t like him–
These kids don’t look like anything but kids- and I didn’t feel intimidated by them- this was wrong– and I am not budging!
I have used worse words than dude-
sorry- me no like him! As a matter of fact, I am very angry at this moment– that cop wouldn’t shut up– this is worse!

Not all law enforcement are right either-

to check and to balance!

and on a very personal note- I hope he doesn’t have kids–

I agree he appears quite “jerk-esque” in the video. As I have always said, there are cops who are jerks…I just hope the lesson here is a pro-video one.
And I agree with your contrast against the cop in a fight.

THANKS dear!

Yea, sorry, but he appears to be out of order. I have dealt with kids much worse than that and kept my cool.
You may be right,.. maybe he had a bad day, but he should still make amends to the kid.
What kind of uniform and police vehicle is that supposed to be? He looks like leisure centre security. Maybe thats why he’s so angry? Give him his dignity back.

I agree in general, I really do. He might just be a jerk. I think the uniform is standard for bicycle cops in some places, but it certainly does not do much for his “dignity” as you mention!!!
